What Global Warming is All About

Global warming is a very popular topic at the moment. What is it? Is it real? How will it affect us? Knowledgable scientists worldwide agree that it IS in fact a very real, very serious, and very imminent concern. The "scientists" who disagree with this are employed privately, and paid handsomely by oil companies and coal powered factories, and are largely equivalent to the "scientists" who told you smoking wasn't bad for you 50 years ago. The question that remains (which i will answer in this article) is how it will affect the lives of Earth's inhabitants.

A Closer Look at Global Warming

Global warming is essentially just what its name suggests. It is the warming of the earth's atmosphere, but not just a simple rise in temperature. The earth's climate regulates virtually everything on a worldwide basis. This includes things such as: the ocean currents and water levels, the temperatures, the storm patterns, the deserts and rainforests, pollution levels, crop growth and even migration patterns.

Due to the over-consumption of fossil fuel sources such as gas, oil and coal, the earth's climate is spiking abnormally. Pollution from such fuels has resulted in huge amounts of carbon dioxide and other pollutants being trapped within the atmosphere of the earth. Along with the pollution they create, the accumulation of "greenhouse gasses" has changed manner by which nature regulates itself and the temperatures of the earth.

What's A Few Degrees Matter?

The warming of the earth may seem to be no cause for concern but the rise of temperature of a simple degree or two worldwide will result in a rise in temperature of 12 to 20 degrees at the Poles of the Earth!
This will result in the melting of the ice caps which will in turn result in the flooding of coastal cities worldwide. These cities include some of the largest and most highly populated cities on the planet such as Los Angeles (Along with the entire California coast) Manhattan, Miami, Seattle, Bangkok, and London among many others. Tropical Islands like Hawaii and the Caymans will be lost forever. Hundreds of Millions of people will lose their homes, and places of work, not to mention the economic devastation we will suffer at losing most of the prime real estate in the world.

This isn't all. A huge portion of the most fertile land is located in low lying areas which are in regions that are susceptible to global flooding. Whenthe oceans rise, most if not all of this fertile land will be flooded and completely useless in terms of farming. Again Hundreds of millions of people worldwide will be affected and lose their primary sources of growing food. This will cause a ripple effect throughout the world, magnifying world hunger and poverty to extremes never before seen.

Thats ok you say? We can just get our food from the oceans? Leaving aside the fact that the same practices that are causing global warming have virtually anihilated our oceans and made them unsafe to eat from due to mercury and pollution... with the subsequent rise in ocean water levels, fish will vacate the areas that people fish for them for a living and move to other areas leaving us empty handed.

But food shortage is just "the tip of the polar ice cap." Increases in global temperature will also lead to an increase in many of the diseases that are found all over the world. These sorts of diseases include TB and malaria. And, with much of the world suffering from battered immune systems due to malnourishment these diseases will only spread faster and farther, affecting even the most industrialized countries.

It's More Than Warmer Temperatures!!

Global warming affects weather patterns the world over. When temperatures rise, regardless of whether this temperature increase is as small as a fraction of a degree, storms tend to become a whole lot more violent, and nature increasingly unpredictable. Hurricanes are getting more powerful and devastating each year. This trend will only get worse as each year passes. In places where rains frequently occur, storms will become infinately worse and the resultant flooding will be even more severe. And, despite the global rise in temperatures, Winter will be just as harsh as ever with heavier snowfalls and more brutal winds than have ever been seen.

The effects i have listed above are just a miniscule fraction of the devastation that will ensue if we let global warming continue.
As you can see, Global warming poses an enormous and imminent threat to all people, everywhere in the world.
As each day passes and we continue this destruction, the world becomes a more and more unsavory place. Once the damage is done, IT CANNOT BE UNDONE! The polar ice caps cannot be refrozen. Coastal cities cannot be "unflooded,"
And lives cannot be "untaken."

That is why i URGE you to do something today! This DOES affect you, and everyone you know, and helping to take a stand is the first step! You are already ahead of the majority by becoming informed about the dangers. Now it is up to you to take action, because all the good intentions in the world are useless if you fail to act on them.
